According to NFL channel Pernell McPhee to OLB

I just saw it on the scroll at the bottom. I am not sure what to think of the move.

I like McPhee a lot, and I want to see more of him, if he has the skill set to move outside I guess its good. With all of these new players on the line, I think he needs to move for more PT. I hope this works out for him.

Honestly, if I were to predict the type of OLB he would be, I'd reckon he be more in the mold of Courtney Upshaw and Jarret Johnson. His inside rush ability would be much closer to Upshaw.

Sure seemed to be dominant on the interior... odd move if accurate

    Personally, I'm not a fan.

I think even he himself said that part of his problems reaching his potential in college was that they had him playing OLB when he wants to be a DE.

I think he can be a pass rush specialist at DE...he isn't a starter obviously as he isn't going to hold up physically defending the run, but I don't think OLB really takes advantage of his phone booth rush skills.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

This might be one of those situations where he still rushes from end, but they just send him on stunts from OLB where he ends up rushing from the same spot.

However, we all know that every now and then, the Ravens coaching staff likes to get too cute with it's 'versatility'.

Yeah I agree it's more likely about having options in case of injury or just scheme camouflage.

i think it was mentioned earlier in offseason. He had a pretty strong rookie season, but i thought the debate on him last year was that a majority of his sacks came from more of a rush end than a true 3-4 DE spot. Perhaps why they are moving him to OLB, he has an easier time playing the outside edge pass rush than fighting with a big OG?

While I don't think he has the ability of Suggs, he is maybe a poor mans version of him. He has a similar skill set really, especially in confined spaces. With Suggs slimming down, they may be worried about too many snaps for him and may be looking for another guy who can platoon with him.

NFL Network was late to the party on this one. This has been in the works all offseason. McPhee has already dropped weight, just like Bryan Hall did for his move to inside linebacker. McPhee will be nice situational pass rusher on the outside, in my opinion. I think he'll fit in well.

This is not news. If I remember correctly, they mentioned this at the very beginning of the offseason.

I'll miss his pass-deflection performance. (ask Tom Brady about...)
seems like the Ravens brain trust is looking for best fit, not just trying to plug holes, which is what a lot of media thought they'd be doing this off-season.
