Flacco also lost 2 TDs in 2012, both were passes to Jacoby (so he lost 2 as well).
The first was in the Eagles game when the replacement refs called offensive PI on Jones when it should've been defensive PI.
The second was in the Giants game when Jones caught the pass, turned quickly, and dove for the end zone, stretching out to put the ball over the goal line, only to have the ball pop free after his hand hit the ground. The refs ruled that Jacoby failed to make a "football move" before losing the ball, so the catch didn't count, even though it was in his hand when the ball broke the plane of the goal line.
Add in that Flacco barely played in the final game against the Bengals, and that since he threw either 2 or 3 TDs in every other game with Caldwell as OC, there's a good chance that he lost another 2 or 3 TDs there.
So, if we add those 4 or 5 TDs to Flacco's 22 this season, that comes to a more respectable 26 or 27. That also raises his total for his career to either 106 or 107, which passes Kelly and maybe ties him with Palmer for 5th place.

Matt Ryan is good. He is very good. Its just that he didn't show up in the playoffs until this, his 5th year. Originally Posted by JAB1985

Anyone who wouldn't take Flacco over Ryan either is a Flacco hater or a Falcons fan. Their stats were nearly identical for their early years, despite the fact that Joe was only asked to manage the game those years, and Ryan had a decent offense around him and was asked to produce.
He's had a top 10 WR every year, and the best pass catching TE of all time all but his rookie year. Once he got Julio Jones, which gives him now 2 of the top 10-15 WRs in the NFL, he finally began to surpass Joe statistically. Joe on the other hand has never had a top 15 WR, or a top 10 TE, and has always been the QB of a run-first team.
Oh yeah and another little detail, Joe has won more playoff games on the road than Ryan has started playoff games.
Right now Flacco's career stacks up very well with Brees, Manning, and Brady at similar points in their careers. Which is why I think Joe Flacco will be the NFL MVP in 2014.

I like the effort, but cross-era comparisons simply don't work if you're holding the numbers at face value.

Again, these stats are pretty meaningless. Carson Palmer didn't play at all during his rookie season. Manning was on a horrible team. Favre only played a handful of plays his first year.

Joe didn't come onto a good team, Joe came onto a 5-11 team with a rookie head coach and a fullback playing running back because the star runner was out of shape and the rookie runner wasn't ready to carry the load. Originally Posted by Ravenswintitle
