Re: Football Gameplan's Baltimore Ravens All-Time Team

I wasn't able to load the video here at work, but here is my all-time team.

    QB- Flacco
    RB- Lewis (narrowly over Rice)
    FB- Leach
    LT- Ogden
    LG- Mulitalo
    C- Birk
    RG- Yanda
    RT- O. Brown
    TE- Heap
    WR- Mason
WR #2- toss up between Michael Jackson/Torrey/Boldin/Ismail

    D: Going with a 3-4

    DE: McCrary
    DT: Sam Adams
DE: Ngata, not your conventional DE, but he would be devastating next to Sam Adams circa 2000-01, plus we would get plenty of pass rush from McCrary/Suggs/Boulware/Adalius

    OLB: Suggs
    MLB: Lewis
MLB: Sharper- perhaps the most underrated Raven of all-time
MLB: Boulware for a career, Adalius Thomas for a 3 year burst from 04-06
    CB: C. McAlister
    CB: Webb
    SS: Reed (2002-2005 version)
    FS: Woodson

There's many easy players to pick and a few you could split hairs over. Overall I think the picks are good and the video was well done.

Overall career for FB you have to go Lorenzo Neal. That guy was just the absolute best at his position for a very long time.

For Ravens career I would have to go with Sam Gash over Leach, but it's close. I give the edge to Gash due to larger emphasis on the run game when he was here.

What's the criteria? Overall career, or just in their time with the Ravens?

Either way the defense would be untouchable. Arguably the greatest all-time defense any team could field outside of possibly the Steelers

    QB- Flacco
RB- Lewis and Rice (in the current NFL, you need a 1-2 punch)
    FB- Leach
    LT- Ogden
    LG- Mulitalo
    C- Birk
    RG- Yanda
    RT- O. Brown
    TE- Heap
    WR #1- Michael Jackson
    WR #2- Torrey
    WR #3- Boldin

    KR - Jacoby Jones

    D: Going with a 3-4

    DE: Adalius Thomas/Burnett/Redding
    NG/DT: Sam Adams
    DE: Ngata

    OLB: Suggs
    MLB: Lewis
    MLB: Sharper
    OLB: Boulware
    CB: C. McAlister
    CB: Webb
    SS: Reed (2002-2005 version)
    FS: Woodson

And one other thing...defensive coordinator would be Rex Ryan.
And the jury is still out, and it really is too soon, but I would pick offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell.
And the thinking there is he seems to know what to do with the talent he has and adapts the offense to the players. And yes, it is such a small body of work, BUT, he had been around Peyton Manning and that worked out pretty well, too. (even though he didn't call the plays there)

Head coach...Harbaugh (how can you argue with 5 straight playoffs).

Any of the teams with long histories and multiple championships could field a damn fine defense. The Bears could field a competitive D just with their '85 team alone; let alone if they get the chance to add Butkus etc. The Cowboys, Giants and Niners could all field awesome all-time defenses, studded with Hall-of-Famers.

The Niners would get to put Patrick Willis and Ronnie Lott on the same squad, along with Bryant Young and, I dunno, Deion? The Giants would get to put Lawrence Taylor and Strahan on the same squad, along with Rosey Grier and Harry Carson. The Cowboys could trot out Bob Lilly, Randy White, Too Tall Jones, Lee Roy Jordan, Mel Renfro, Cornell Green...

Oh shit... Jimmy Smith's story is written yet. Just wait till he's on that list.

Just Kidding, Just Kidding. Impressive list though and it's fun to look back at all the players that have passed through. And, a lot on the list were still here, up 'til 2013 (i.e. Boldin, R. Lewis, Reed, maybe even Leach). God, could you imagine a J. Lew/R. Rice one-two punch.
