Re: Be Ozzie. Tell me which of these SEC juniors you pick at 32.

How would you like this draft?

Pick 38 (from Arizona)- Alec Ogletree- MLB- Georgia
Pick 62- Darius Slay- CB- Mississippi St
Pick 82 (trading up from 94, with package of 5th round pick)- Baccari Rambo, S, Georgia
Pick 95 (traded up from 103, pick obtained from trading back with Arizona, along with 6th round pick from SF obtained in Boldin trade)- Barrett Jones, OG/C/T, Alabama
Pick 121 (traded up from 129, along with our natural 6th rounder)- Kenny Stills, WR, Oklahoma
Pick 129- Supplemental 4th rounder- Chris Faulk, OT, LSU
Pick 168- Supplemental 5th rounder- Michael Williams, TE, Alabama

Aside from Stills, that would be a great SEC-heavy draft IMO. We would fill every major spot of need and still have 3 picks in the 6th and 7th round.

If they have to stick at 32 and pick from those guys?

Matt Elam all the way. He is the best player out of that bunch.

Matt Elam would be a Day 1 starter at SS, especially behind this front seven.

If Ogletree is there, I'd be MIGHTY tempted to pull the trigger on him at 32...but if you can really get a nice 4th rounder for 5 spots, then I'd do it and just hope he keeps falling. He probably won't, but getting that extra pick and still coming away with Elam or Reid or Minter would be great to me.

What conferences do the Ravens draft a relatively high percentage? Big 12 and non-BCS schools. For both they draft at the fifth highest rate of all NFL teams.
Current Ravens from the SEC include and we know how much Ozzie likes Alabama:

    Upshaw - Alabama
    Cody - Alabama
Oher - Ole Miss - all starters during the year and contributors in SB 47
    Josh Bynes - Auburn
    Torey Gurely - South Carolina
    Marcus Spears - LSU
    Deonte Thompson - Florida
    Emanuel Cook - South Carolina
    DeAngelos Tyson - Georgia

    Plus departed SEC stars like

    Jamal Lewis - Tenn
    JJ - another from Alabama

That's a lot right there. How many more do you want?

Ravens do specialize in great finds from the small colleges like Flacco from Delaware
and Webb from Nicholis State and Harewood from little Moorehouse plus a
ton of guys from Miami like you know who and our own former Terps like Torrey Smith,
LaQuan Williams and SB 35 star Jermaine Lewis.

I'd say Ozzie spreads em out from many venues and has two rings to show for his great
drafting and undrafted finds like Priest Holmes.

I guess they have to decide if there's a guy likely to be there that they really covet. I lean toward Elam if he's there. From what I've seen, he's a hard hitter and "Ravens" type player who might be able to step right in at safety. I'm sure Oz will figure it out, though. He usually does.

Some of our biggest busts have from the SEC too.

    Jay Graham
    Travis Taylor
    Deron Jenkins
Musa Smith (more injury related than lack of ability, but still awful career production from a 3rd round RB)

Just 4 busts? That's all? Compared to the list I provided?

Turns out the SEC and ACC placed more people on the 2013 NFL Pro Bowl than any conference.

Elam and if he's not available trade back and get the extra 4th.

I'd be pretty happy with all those players, though I don't think we need to draft a CB round 2 unless he's far and away BPA at that point

My choice would be to trade back too, but I don't think Ozzie will opt for more 2nd/3rd round picks. I think he will use the additional ammo to trade up, from out original picks, in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to select players he covets... Bc

I'm sure I'm way in the minority, but I do think we need to get another CB. I just don't know how much we can rely on Webb staying healthy. To me, on defense in this modern NFL, the two most important positions are pass rushing DE's and CB's. I'm not saying as a first pick necessarily, but if a top rated one falls to 32 I'd bet the Ravens snatch him.
