    2013 Comp pick question

So I was talking with my brother about comp picks all the players we've lost to free agency this year.

And we thought, we have not signed any FA (have we?) and we have lost Reed, Ellerbe, Kruger, Williams all should be full tie starters next year.

Does anyone know if you can receive multiple 3rd round comp picks?

Only Kruger signed a large enough contract to possibly earn a 3rd round Comp.

The average yearly salary initially sets the round of the Comp pick. It can then go up or down a round based "performance" - post season honors (ProBowl, All Pro,MVP,etc) can raise it a round, lack of starts can lower it a round.

So, could the others not even capable of becoming 3rd rounders because of their contracts, or could they move up to 3rd rounders if they perform well?

Only Kruger or Ellerbe could move up to the 3rd (assuming Ellerbe initially merits a 4th). I'm pretty sure that there can only be a rise or fall of 1 round.

In theory, though, a team could receive multiple 3rd round comp picks, correct?

Is a third round pick the highest compensatory pick any team can earn?

3rd rounders are pretty rare. Usually only 1 or 2 teams get them per year. I guess that players who sign huge contracts usually either sign them for their current teams, or are cut first.
