    Re: Ed Reed to Houston

As much as I don't trust PFT, I do believe the Ravens knew about Reed's injury situation. I would think they would have to being that he gets physicals from team doctors and probably have access to medical records.

Don't teams usually give players their own physicals when signing them? If this would've been caught on a physical, why wouldn't Houston be aware of it?

I believe the Ravens DID know about his injuries. What I don't get is why this seems to be pointed back on us, like we've been hiding it?

Again, I know, Florio and PFT are generally rumor mongers...still, seems dangerously close to libel. Making false accusations that we hid this injury from the NFL injury reports.

Just from reading articles here and there it sounds like a physical does include an MRI. A torn hip labrum may very well go unnoticed if the player does not alert the doctors and subsequently get an MRI.

The Ravens probably knew his hip was bothering him but if they did not give him an MRI they would not know the extent. Florio is just pointing out that if the Ravens did know the extent they did not include it in the injury report. It is not like he is trying to get the Ravens but everyone remembers Reed and the shoulder situation.

I don't read it like that.

Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Not knowing about the hip injury is purely on the Texans. Ed's health in general has not been kept a secret. The shoulder, the nerve injury in his neck, and he missed 6 games on the PUP due to a hip injury.

I never understood why there was no backlash when Peyton Manning signed a $90 million extension and then had surgery a month later. There's no way he didn't know he'd be having that surgery. So he gets paid $26 million to stand on the sideline, posture for his release, and watch his coach (former QB coach) get fired. At least it worked out well for Caldwell in the long run.

This exactly. Ed Reed signed w/Texas as Ed Reed, not as a Raven; he was an independent contractor.

    All,

I had an arthroscopic "Ed Reed" (formerly Cary Williams) procedure, two months ago, to repair a torn hip labrum. Ask me anything.

    LOL

Anyways, I read that Ed Reed was rehabbing around Denver. The doc who pioneered the surgery practices/trains out of Vail, CO and is considered the go-to-guy for athletes, so it's likely who he went to. His rule of thumb is that you can start sport specific/light impact (ie. running) training no earlier than 10 weeks post-op, assuming no micro-fractures and/or setbacks. Considering his age and prior injuries, it's doubtful he'd be back to full form in time to play us...
