And none of of those rookies are Ed Reed.

Bingo. There was an initial rush of big money deals in FA, but those quickly ended. There are a lot of 1 year cheap deals being given out right now.

Texans reportedly offered Reed something like a 3 year 4m deal. I don't think the Ravens are matching that.

If Reed wants to be in Baltimore in 2013, he's likely going to have to accept vet minimum plus (perhaps) 25%... Bc

Houston offered him 4 million a year.

Vet minimum is what around $900,000? So lets say you're okay with 1.5 million per year salary.

Would you spend that extra 2.5 million on him? Is he worth it?

In a word..."NO" every player has a shelf-life, and Reed's is close to the end... Bc

Being "cheap" is completely irrelevant. We have the same amount of money as every other team.

I think if he could actually still tackle and not get leapfrogged by tight ends, Ozzie might consider 5-6 million for 3 years. But I think while his coverage skills are still good, next year could show his age.

If Houston is offering 4, no other team is going to offer more IMO.

    I love Ed but no.

Unless Ed wants to come back at say 2 million or less I cant see it happening.

If I were him I would have taken the Texans deal. It might the best deal he will see.

Ok? I still don't understand your point.

It's not like every team in the NFL has the same amount of money left.

The rookie this team brings in probably won't be 65% of what Reed is NOW.

People seem to think that being old means you no longer have value.

Ray Lewis was 37 last year. Some would say he has limitations just like Reed does now.

Are people saying they would let Ray Lewis stay on the bench during the playoffs and let Josh Bynes start?

There is value to Ed Reed. Much more than most safties in the NFL.
