It's not always about how good the player is. The market plays a major role in what a player gets. Not every team evaluates talent as well as the Ravens do, or some of the better front offices. That also plays a role.

I was looking at our top contracts.

With respect to guaranteed money, we are generally much lower than most teams stars.

You will see a lot of players with 40-50% of their deal guaranteed.

It seems we like to stay under 30%.

Both Webb and Suggs had guaranteed %'s in the ~25% range.

Ngata is the only guy that broke the mold with ~55% guaranteed.

Injuries occur, so there is always risk with a huge contract. Suggs and Webb didn't work out last year, but we still got a Lombardy. They'll be back this year and I hope they both return to form. I'd say the team has done a good job not leaving a lot of dead money out there on big multi-year contracts that failed. Foxworth ended up being the worst signing I can remember in recent memory, and even that wasn't as bad as it could have been.

man the Lions got Quin dirt cheap.

$5.25M signing bonus. $4.75M average over 5 years.

Is he from DET or something? Was that really his best offer?

Would have loved Quin. Thought he's a really good all around versatile player.

I like the moves the Lions are making.

well I guess the Ravens didn't like him. I don't see how we couldn't afford that contract.

Cassel to Vikes a done deal according to Glazer.

Cassel and Ponder get to fight it out to see who throws to Jerome Simpson.

    Poor AP.

Jake Long hasn't signed yet has he? I wonder if Ozzie is going to make a splash by going after him?

He cleared his medical tests now in contract talks. So we know he's healthy. We'll see what the Rams want to give him

    Poor AP.
Cassel has no shot at starting as long as Ponder is healthy. They signed him as a backup

I really am intrigued as to who we're going after and what our plan is. Do we make a bigger signing or go with a few bargain type deals?
