Re: Could the Madden cover be a Ravens player?

I think that people are so defensive of the jinx that they manufacturing ways to smear a player's season. Nothing happened to Ray Lewis in the 2004 season after he was on the cover for Madden 05 (yes, it's confusing how they release the games a year too early). People made the excuse that he was injured in the season after that. Calvin Johnson had a record setting season after he was on the cover, and now people are saying he was cursed because he had a few broken fingers? Also, wasn't Drew Brees on the cover a few years ago? I don't seem to remember him having a down year.

This is the way I see it: they usually pick skill position players or scrambling QB's. Obviously, everybody knows that those are the positions that are injured the most. Also, they pick players at the height of their game. They only have one place to go from there. Moreover, some of the picks are even questionable. Vince Young, Hillis, Culpepper?

If I'm looking to sell games I want to push the most exciting trend in the NFL. That means going with a 3 headed-monster cover of RGIII, Kaepernick & Wilson. Better than that I would print 3 versions of the game each with 1 of those quarterbacks and a collectors edition with all 3.

If it were to be one of our guys, I would have to say that the best candidate would be Jacoby Jones. He seems to be have the most mainstream, national appeal out of any of our players. Him and Rice (another good candidate) seem to be the only guys who don't get slammed on the ESPN message boards when articles praise them. People don't believe in Flacco, people don't like Suggs, and Ngata hasn't been doing well. I think that marketers are drawn to Jones's kick-off returns and clutch 70 yard bombs. Plus, he had his best games in the play-offs.

Before the voting, it used to be the coverboy would be foreshadowing of the new features that they were unveiling: Michael Vick with playmaker control, Ray Lewis with an emphasis on improving the defense, McNabb with precision passing, Sean Alexander with improved blocking controls, Brett Favre with players retiring/unretiring in franchise mode (JK on that one), Troy Polamula/Larry Fitzgerald with an emphasis on "fighting for every inch," etc.

If they're not doing the voting again, they could go back to that formula. In that case, I'd imagine that they would be unveiling referee mode (I'm so funny aren't I?) or the option read. But keep in mind, the option read was pretty popular with RGIII and Wilson in the last version, so it wouldn't be anything new, I'm not sure if that was an update that was added in the middle of the season though.

To keep it consistant with Jones, maybe they could have an emphasis on special teams/role players/specialists being important to win championships. They've never made games changes like that an emphasis.
