Re: Super Bowl thought experiment
If the Ravens hadn't gone through the things that they had recently, they wouldn't have had the resolve that they showed in the playoff's. Particularly, in the Denver game when they were down, they had been there before. The Ravens are a team that has seen it all at this point. They overcame simply because they had been there and done that.

Well said BC.
I wonder why Steve Mcnair doesn't get the same treatment as these guys. His pick in the EZ against the Colts very likely cost us a trip to the SB in 06. I guess its cuz without him we wouldn't have gotten that far anyway. But I still think we were just as deserving to get there in 2006 as we were in 2011. Doesn't matter though, 2012 makes up for all the heartbreaks and makes the victory all the more sweeter.

Likewise, I think they drew on the defeat in Pittsburgh in 2010 to help them withstand the Niners late rally in the SB. Up 21-7 at the half in 2010 but they just couldn't hold on. That had to be in the backs of a few of the guys minds when they went into halftime at the SB up 21-6.

Re: Super Bowl thought experiment
It's not that simple. You can't copy and paste game situations with different players. Something like not signing Jones would have created a butterfly effect in so many ways that the game situations where he made big plays/mistakes would not have taken place. With Jones out of the lineup, the OC calls different plays, Flacco makes different reads and different throws...it's all too hard to project.

Re: Super Bowl thought experiment
Last night I watched the "Ravens Report Div Champ" that I recorded weeks ago and it really sank in that we won the Super Bowl and I am completely over Cundiff and Evans...I feel worse for Evans than I do Cundiff and I am so happy that we kept Tucker instead. I had clamored for Tucker the whole pre-season :happyanim

It's like Ray said - "when it's your time, it's your time...when it's not, it's not".
This was our time.
I still get chills thinking about it.
