Was he lining up as a TB? Or running out of the FB position?

At Wake Forrest, I think he came in for goal line plays at tailback. Had ability as a receiver from the limited games I've seen him play in, would be an athletic type FB, maybe not a James Casey, but more athletic as Leach, not the blocker he was though.

I know most here are jazzed about Austin, but I thought Hopkins showed well. And Hunter put some really good measurables up. These guys would be much easier to land.

Not much separation between any of the WRs (not named Austin). Similar heights, similar speeds, similar skill sets. Any of them could turn out to be a dud or a star. Hard to say one way or the other.

Conner Vernon from Duke and Robert Woods of USC are really nice route runners and have great hands. I also liked FSU's, Rodney Smith's size, hands, and body control in the workouts.

Teo won't be doing bench, supposedly b/c he is still dinged up from a stinger he suffered.

He better hope he knocks out his interviews and runs fast, or else he might be saying Hi to round 2.

In the film I've seen, Vernon is "play-away" lazy. With how aggressively Q and Torrey block downfield, I can't see our FO overlooking it.

So Woods looked healed? He ran average routes this past season but if his ankle/foot is healed then maybe he's back on track.

Well, he's got a lot of explaining to do. You don't make allegations that the coaching staff is abusive without sending up a red flag or two. That can't sit well with NFL coaches, and will probably result in his being crossed off a lot of draft boards.

That's been pretty well discussed in the Offseason thread. Basically, Mike Leach is a coach who has consistently been at war with his top recruits. In the case of Wilson, Wilson was the top returnig WR in the PAC 12. Mike Leach had just gotten hired, and was in his first year at Wash State, and made it a point to shank the biggest guy in the prison, so to speak. He went after Wilson, who was by far the team's best player, and ran him off. But not until the season had already spiraled horribly out of control. They waffled back on forth on the QB (Tuel and Halliday), never got into a groove, Leach spread negative vibes all over the place, and by season's end, all the excitement over his run and shoot offense had turned into "WTF is the deal with this guy"

At Texas Tech he had some prime talent but usually piddled it away. Leach likes underdogs and hates thoroughbreds. That's just how he is. I recall Robert Johnson was a top JUCO QB out of Georgia, promised him a shot at QB then immediately made him a WR. Didn't go over well, but Johnson made what he could of it. He had another guy transfer from Texas who had been the #2 High School WR prospect in the country, and promptly pissed him off and buried him on the depth chart. Then the whole Adam James thing... basically, I think Wilson can skate right past that whole situation in his interviews. I doubt Mike Leach has a great reputation in the NFL.

If Mike Leach had a history of turning out great players due to his tough coaching methods, that'd be one thing. If this was a Nick Saban player or Urban Meyer player, I'd be worried. But it's a Mike Leach player, and frankly its a guy who probably wouldn't have played for Leach had Leach been the one to recruit him. For all the stats his teams put up over about a decade, he's put no good QBs in the league, and maybe 2-3 WRs of any note, and one of them is Wes Welker, who is pretty much a self made NFL player.

What are your thoughts on Fuller?

I like the guy. I think he isn't a finished product yet, but I like what I've seen so far. Not much tape on him though.

Being a Hokie fan, I saw every game they played this year. He stands out on the field. For a track guy, he's pretty advanced as a WR. I don't know how complete his route tree is, but he is no 9-route specialist. He showed toughness and concentration in traffic and was by far the team's most willing receiver over the middle. Basically, he played the position very well.

I don't know if there were limits on him, like whether there were routes he didn't run, etc. I know with that long stride Mayock was concerned, but that didn't look like the player I saw in those games. A stride like that, you don't forget, because it's odd looking. I think that was just his "track star" stride that he was trained to use when running track (which he was on scholarship at Kansas before switching). So I took that long stride with a grain of salt, because seeing all those catches he made over the middle, I don't think he has a big issue getting in and out of breaks.

Then again by NFL standards, he might and if he does have to chop the strides going into a break, obviously that's a huge "tell" that CBs will be able to exploit. I didn't happen to catch him doing any of the short-area or agility work today so I'd be interested to see people's thoughts on that if anyone saw him run those other drills.
