Re: Steelers Lose - Ravens are in the Playoffs (Merged)

So, if I am not mistaken, the Ravens can lose the last two games and still win the division if the Steelers beat the Bengals next week. If that happens, I say rest as many players as possible in week 17. The Ravens need to get as many guys back as possible.

You can't spell elite without ELI...

True. The last two SB champions both "backed into" the playoffs.

NO, NO, NO--THIS IS NOT TRUE!!

If PGH wins out & BAL loses out, then all 3 are 9-7. However, the first tiebreaker is games played against the other teams they are tied with in the division: BAL would be 2-2, CIN 1-3, and PGH 3-1 (having swept CIN).

In which case the Stealers win the AFCN & the Ravens are likely headed to either Denver or Foxboro as the #6 seed while Pittsburgh hosts Indy.

(And just FTR I stated this in my thread of last Sunday. You could look it up.)

The only way remaining for the Ravens to "back into" the division title would be for PGH to defeat CIN but then lose (or tie!) at home vs CLE in week 17. Absent that, the Ravens still have to win (or tie!) one more game for the #4 seed.

So next week's game will still matter for seeding regardless of the outcome of CIN@PGH earlier.

It's a bit of a long-shot, but it's not out of the question.
Dont want 3 seed. Want 4 seed. Have Steelers vs Denver matchup. Colts vs Ravens matchup. Denver can lose that game easily. Pittsburgh is NEVER an easy out in playoffs and could also win in Houston or NE as well. Avoid Steelers til AFCCG, IMO.

Just goes to show how far ahead the Ravens were before the collapse and how pitiful the division has been. Is this the first time the Ravens have backed into the playoffs in such a sad fashion?

Wrong. You are forgetting Pittsburgh lost to Cleveland. If Pitt wins next week Ravens win division. Pittsburgh has already been eliminated from any chance of winning division with loss today.
