browns instincts from the linebacker position are head and shoulders above ogletrees ATM obviously due to experience. He trusts what he sees, he can shed blocks, he stuffs the run, I've seen him play zone, play mags running backs and slot receivers. I seen him rush the passer as well.

Concern with both is can they play in a 34 at the next level.

Watch Kansas and Oklahoma, brown does a bit of everything in that game.

Brown is a heck of a defensive player. He really is.

Regarding his size and being in a 3-4...well, lots of folks felt the same way about Navorro Bowman and Darryl Richardson and they've done nothing but excel.

Brown is about 230lbs right now and could probably bump up into the high 230's. I'll take a guy with instincts and a bit on the smallish side over a behemoth any day of the week.

This, i think we have to move away from just placing thumper after thumper in the middle, the game is evolving and we need athletes to keep up. Obviously NT is gonna be a key position for us to upgrade so if we can get one in the draft like say Jenkins from UGA and pair him up front with a healthy Ngata i think they can keep blockers off our ILB's enough to make up for Brown's lack of size. I think Brown sheds blocks and plays the run better then the average guy his size, plus he can make the calls, cover in space, etc.

What vids are you guys watching on Brown? And what value are y'all talking about. I see a good player but 4-5 value.

I see late 2nd at the highest. Lavonte David is a very comparable linebacker and he went at pick 58 last year.

I hope we have a deep defensive draft and get some better talent on the D line and at ILB. Bring back Ellerbe and Kruger. McClain can go. Hopefully Pees is gone too.
You guys wanna hear a funny joke?

    DEAN PEES............That is all

Just realized that my questions could have been interpreted as rhetorical or negative...sorry about that.
    Which game?
I was watching TTU and Miami. I saw a few good plays but from play-to-play, I expected to see more.
I'm dying to find us a solid ILB so I want to run Brown to ground.

    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

In terms of drafting sides of the ball. I'd be fine if we only took 1 offensive lineman. The only WR we are going to draft that will be better than Doss (potential and right away) would have to be done in the first three rounds. I think our first 3 rounds need to be OL/DL/ILB (in no order)

We have 2 project WR's (Streeter, Thompson and I guess there's always Williams), enough depth at QB and RB.

Regarding WR's - both Thompson and LaQuan Williams have been pretty good in limited action.

Streeter has a ton of potential, but is really raw.

    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

    My December Edition, Rounds 1-3.
*I do not factor in trades. You can't. It is impossible.
*Picks are based on a combination of need and BPA (I feel that most GMs and Coaches employ this strategy).
*Players are selected where I think their current stock is and where it could potentially be.

    Round 1:
    1. Kansas City Chiefs (2-8) Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia (6’3” 215lbs).
Kansas City probably could be a playoff contender if they had better play from their QB. What is even more amazing is that Jamaal Charles is able to do anything considering all defenses know the Chiefs are going to run the ball. Rumors are flying that after this season is over the Chiefs are going to clean house and cut bait on a lot of overpriced players who just aren’t that good. Geno Smith is someone that they could build a franchise around. He has a great arm, is mobile, and gets rid of the ball quickly. Previous Pick: No change.

    2. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8) Manti T’eo, LB, Notre Dame (6’2” 245lbs).
Personally, I think the ILB position in general has lost a lot of value as the league has developed into more of a passing league, but T’eo is hands down the best overall player in this draft. How many linebackers are finalists for the Heisman? He does everything well and is a great leader for the Irish on and off the field. Jacksonville will likely consider several different positions with this pick, but T’eo is the best player available and it isn’t like Jacksonville’s defense couldn’t use him. Previous Pick: Matt Barkley.

    3. Philadelphia Eagles (3-9) Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah (6’4” 330lbs). Andy Reid is gone and the Eagles are going to clean house. I know that they really need an offensive tackle, but I think Lotulelei is going to be too good to pass up. He is arguably the best player in the draft behind T’eo. Lotulelei can stuff the run and has excellent athleticism for a man his size, which makes him a nice interior pass rusher as well. The Eagles are going to have to make some tough decisions with some of their aging players (Mike Patterson & Cullen Jenkins) and Lotulelei would be an excellent compliment beside Fletcher Cox. Previous Pick: Luke Joeckel.

    4. Oakland Raiders (3-9) Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama (6’1” 190lbs).
Milliner has been an outstanding cornerback for the Crimson Tide this year. He has nice fluidity and can turn-and-run with ease. He breaks on the ball well and he has nice size to go along with solid speed. He compares heavily to Stephon Gilmore, who went to the Bills last year in round 1. Oakland tried to address cornerback and drafted Demarcus Van Dyke last year, but they cut him after letting Nnamdi, Stanford Routt, and Chris Johnson go. The Raiders need a lot of help on defense, so getting one of the top defensive players available might be pretty high on their wish list. As a caveat, I think Oakland could very easily make a play to trade up for Manti T’eo. Previous Pick: No Change.

    5. Carolina Panthers (3-9) Jonathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State (6’4” 325lbs).
Carolina has been skimping at the DT position for years and it is evident when you watch them play. They can’t stop the run and they have a hard time keeping their linebackers clean. At the moment, the only lineman who commands double teams is Charles Johnson and he can’t do it all himself. Hankins is a massive DT with some nice athleticism and burst. He’s a good run stopper and his current numbers don’t really portray how good of a pass rusher he can be. There are some questions about his work ethic, but on the field he is definitely something that Carolina can use in their front 7. Previous Pick: Star Lotulelei.

    6. Cleveland Browns (4-8) Jarvis Jones, LB, Georgia (6’3” 240lbs).
This is a defensively heavy draft, so I think there could be a ton of defensive players taken in the top 20. Jones struggled against Alabama, so I think some teams may pass on him in the top 5, but the talent is there. Jones is a fantastic prospect who can line up at defensive end, outside linebacker, inside linebacker, and is even athletic enough to be able to cover receivers. Cleveland has a good thing going right now and they really just need to get play makers. It doesn’t matter where they play, they just need to get talented players and then find a place for them on that football team. Previous Pick: Damontre Moore.

    7. Tennessee Titans (4-8) – Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M (6’4” 255lbs). Derrick Morgan can’t stay healthy and is teetering on bust status. Kameiron Wimbley is more of a run stopper than a pass rusher and frankly, the Titans really don’t have anyone else on their roster that can really put significant pressure on opposing QB’s. The Titans have some major issues in their secondary, but improving their pass rush could really help with alleviating some of those issues. Previous Pick: Sam Montgomery.

    8. Arizona Cardinals (4-8) Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M (6’6” 310lbs).
The Cardinals play the 49er’s and Rams twice a year. That means that they are facing off against Chris Long and Aldon Smith…twice a year. It won’t matter whom they have in at QB because right now the Cardinals have a massive hole at left tackle. They resigned Levi Brown, but he may be the worst left tackle in the league. Joeckel is a fantastic run blocker and pass blocker. He has solid footwork, long arms, and has nice bend. He has been a big reason why freshman QB, Johnny Football, threw for over 4,000 yards and rushed for another 1,000. Previous Pick: Tyler Wilson.

    9. Detroit Lions (4-8) Jonathan Banks, CB, Mississippi State (6’2” 190lbs). This pick is a no-brainer if Banks is there when Detroit is up. The Lions have some serious personnel issues on the defensive side of the ball. They were definitely banking on Aaron Berry this year and his off-field issues forced the Lions’ hands. Offensively, the Lions can hang points on just about anyone, but defensively they just cannot stop anyone from passing all over them. Couple that with ego issues in the front 7 and you have a pretty overrated defense. Banks is long, lean, and very athletic. He’s been a starter in the SEC since he was a freshman and has lined up across from some serious NFL talent (Julio Jones & AJ Green). Previous Pick: Xavier Rhodes.

    10. San Diego Chargers (4-8) Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State (6’2” 217lbs).
Quinton Jammer is a penalty machine and he just doesn’t have the wheels to really keep up with receivers anymore. He really should slide back to safety and Eric Weddle should slide over to strong safety. Cason and Gilchrest are decent players, but San Diego needs a cornerback that will take away a team’s best receiver. Rhodes is a physical specimen at cornerback and you really just don’t see guys who are this athletic and this size at cornerback. He isn’t as fluid as Dee Milliner or Jonathan Banks, but he is every bit as good at stopping the run and he brings nice ball skills to the table as well. Previous Pick: Justin Hunter.

    11. Miami Dolphins (5-7) Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU (6’4” 260lbs).
The Dolphins could go a couple of different ways here, but I think Montgomery could be a target of theirs. Cameron Wake is a nice pass rusher, but he isn’t that great of a run defender. Frankly, the Dolphins really don’t have anyone opposite of Wake who can rush the passer. Montgomery is a fantastic all-around defensive end. He rushes the passer well, he plays the run well, he can set the edge, and he has a lot of upside. A lot of folks compare him to Aldon Smith. Previous Pick: Tyler Eiffert.

    12. Buffalo Bills (5-7) Matt Barkley, QB, USC (6’2” 230lbs).
At one point many felt that Matt Barkley was the #1 overall prospect in this draft. However, an inconsistent season coupled with an injury is going to drop his stock a little. I still think some teams will try to move up and take him because QB’s are a hot commodity and there are several teams that need one. Offensive players on the Bills still feel that Ryan Fitzpatrick can get them to where they want to be, but I’m not 100% sold on that and I don’t believe that the Bills front office is either. Barkley needs some coaching, but he has a solid arm and has a lot of experience as a starter in pressure situations. Previous Pick: Luke Joeckel.

    13. New York Jets (5-7) Jon Jenkins, DT, Georgia (6’3” 351lbs).
I can’t see Rex Ryan with the Jets after this year and honestly I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of the current coaching staff replaced. Mark Sanchez is a lost cause, but I think the Jets new regime will try and go for the best player available and just kind of see where the chips fall. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make a play for Matt Barkley or Geno Smith. Jenkins has experience as a 3-4 NT and a 3-4 DE. Not only is he a massive space eater, but he has a nice blend of athleticism, strength, and quickness. Previous Pick: Barkevious Mingo.

    14. New Orleans Saints (5-7) Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU (6’6” 270lbs).
Ansah has really burst onto the scene. He’s a physical specimen with rare speed, strength, and explosiveness. The guy is pretty incredible. The only reason he probably won’t be a top 10 pick is because he is still kind of a one-year-wonder. I definitely think that some team is going to target this guy early in round 1 because his upside is through the roof. He is every bit the athlete that Jason Pierre-Paul was coming out of college and he has quickly become one of the best defensive ends in the league. The Saints could absolutely use a player of that caliber because their DL really just isn’t very good. Previous Pick: Barrett Jones.

    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

    15. St. Louis Rams (5-6-1) Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan (6’7” 305lbs). Sam Bradford could potentially be one of the top QB’s in the league, but you wouldn’t know that with how often he ends up on his back. The Rams’ OL is in shambles and they really just need to get better at tackle. Lewan may not be as powerful as Luke Joeckel is, but he’s long and has excellent footwork. He has a lot of upside as a pass blocker and he does a nice job getting low and moving defensive lineman out of the way in the ground game. Taking Lewan would also mean that they could move Rodger Saffold over to RT, which may be a better fit for him. Previous Pick: Jake Matthews.

    16. Minnesota Vikings (6-6) Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri (6’4” 295lbs). The Vikings have some pretty big issues on defense. They aren’t very good at stopping the run and outside of Jared Allen; they don’t have anyone who can put any pressure on opposing QB’s. When you play the Lions, Packers, and Bears twice a year you really want to make sure that you can put bodies on the QB as often as possible. Sheldon Richardson has a nice variety of pass rushing moves and has excellent burst. He needs some coaching on being a run stopper and he needs to become more consistent, but the talent is there and he could easily be a day 1 starter in Minny’s 4-3. Previous Pick: Bjoern Werner.

    17. Dallas Cowboys (6-6) Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M (6’5” 305lbs). Even though Matthews has been a starter at RT for the Aggies, there are many who think he could play guard or even left tackle. The Cowboys seem to like Tyron Smith at LT, but Dough Free really leaves a lot to be desired at RT and frankly, the Cowboys need some major upgrades at both guard positions. The Cowboys could go for a few different positions, but I think Jake Matthews is one of the top rated players available at this point. His bloodline, natural talent, and nasty temperament would make him an ideal guard in the NFL. Previous Pick: Manti T’eo.

    18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6) Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU (6’5” 245lbs). This isn’t exactly a position of need, but if you have a shot at a top rated pass rusher, you should take it. Mingo is a little on the light side, but the guy has blistering speed and quickness. By the time tackles are getting out of their stance, Mingo is already around them. This is a little bit of a drop, but I think some may be concerned with Mingo’s size and the fact that he’s really not that great of a run stopper. There is a possibility that he may be more of a specialist rather than an every down player, but the raw athleticism and upside will be very hard for several teams to pass up. Previous Pick: Logan Ryan.

    19. St. Louis Rams [from Washinton, (6-6)] Tavon Austin, WR, WVU (5’9” 177lbs). Austin is on the small side, but not one person can doubt the guy is an absolute play maker as a receiver, running back, and return specialist. Some may be surprised that I have him as the top receiver in this draft, but this guy can stretch the field and would be an excellent slot receiver for the Rams. In space on their turf, he’d be a legitimate force to be reckoned with. Danny Amendola is a hell of a player, but he’s had some serious injuries the past two seasons and it has really hurt the Rams’ offense. Previous Pick: Keenan Allen.

    20. Cincinnati Bengals (7-5) Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State (6’4” 255lbs). The Bengals have some nice players on the DL and Carlos Dunlap finally looks like he could be coming around as a consistent player. However, Michael Johnson may not be back next year and even if he is, he’s really more of a specialist and not an every down player. Werner has a non-stop motor and is a blue-collar player that would be a great fit in the AFC North. He has an outstanding bull rush, he’s a hard hitter, and makes a lot of plays in the backfield. Previous Pick: Alex Okafor.

    21. Seattle Seahawks (7-5) Da’Rick Rogers, WR, Tennessee Tech (6’3” 210lbs). Some folks may scratch their head with this pick, but how many of us saw Pete Carroll taking Bruce Irvin or James Carpenter in the first round? The fact is, Carroll is kind of a wild card in the draft and goes after guys who he wants regardless of their past and what others think about them. The Seahawks really need to get Russell Wilson weapons because Sidney Rice is constantly hurt and Doug Baldwin and Golden Tate are slot receivers. If Rogers hadn’t been kicked off of Tennessee’s program he probably would have been a top 15 pick. The talent is there and the upside is there. He catches the ball well, has great speed for his size, and his ability to pick up tough yards after the catch make him a threat against any defense. Previous Pick: No Change.

    22. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-5) Alex Okafor, DE, Texas (6’4” 265lbs). James Harrison is still a decent player, but he’s going to be expensive and the Steelers could part ways with him after this season. Behind Harrison and LaMarr Woodley, they have very little depth at OLB. Okafor is probably the top rated pass rusher at this point and while it would be a little bit of a challenge for him to transition to 3-4 OLB from a 4-3 DE, but he’s an intelligent player who is a hard worker. Previous Pick: Dion Jordan.

    23. New York Giants (7-5) Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia (6’3” 240lbs). The Giants have been skimping on MLB for a few years now and it has left their defense susceptible to passes over the middle and they have had some troubles against the run. Chase Blackburn is a good run stopper, but he isn’t very good in coverage. The Giants traded for Keith Rivers, but he has really never been the same since getting hurt all those years ago. Ogletree is a fantastic linebacker who can cover a lot of ground quickly. He’s solid in coverage, he tracks ball carriers well, and he diagnoses plays quickly and efficiently. Previous Pick: Chance Warmack.

    24. Indianapolis Colts (8-4) Dion Jordan, LB, Oregon (6’6” 245lbs). Jordan is a good pass rusher, but the qualities he brings as a 3-4 OLB are that he sets the edge very well, sheds blockers, makes plays in the backfield, and he drops into coverage very well for a guy his size. He is pretty underrated as an athlete. Chuck Pagano is going to continue to build out his 3-4 defense and there is a good possibility that Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis won’t be with the team next year because they really aren’t great fits for the 3-4 scheme. Previous Pick: Kawann Short.

    25. Chicago Bears (8-4) Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan (6’8” 310lbs).
The Bears have to fix their OL. They benched Gabe Carimi, they lost Lance Louis for the year, they cut Chris Williams, and J’Marcus Webb is average at best. Jay Cutler is a solid QB, but they have to protect him more and they really need to open up better holes for Matt Forte considering the money they’ve invested into the RB position. Fisher could easily be an upgrade over J’Marcus Webb and considering Cutler’s injury issues they really need to give him as much protection as possible. Previous Pick: CJ Mosley.

    26. Green Bay Packers (8-4) CJ Mosley, LB, Alabama (6’2” 236lbs).
Mosley could be an OLB or an ILB. I think he’d be a good fit at ILB for the Packers. Desmond Bishop is ok, but AJ Hawk is seriously overrated. The Packers could definitely benefit from upgrading over Hawk. Mosley is very athletic and would be able to stay out on the field in coverage packages because he is very adept as a cover linebacker. Previous Pick: Dallas Thomas.

    27. San Francisco 49ers (8-3-1) David Amerson, CB, NC State (6’3” 195lbs).
I still think Amerson is one of the top players in this draft. It is just rare to have a cornerback his size that can actually play the position. That said, I do believe that Amerson’s best position in the NFL may be at free safety. He doesn’t have very fluid hips, so he is either going to have to play corner in a defensive scheme that runs a lot of zone, or go to a team that envisions him as a free safety. Even though he doesn’t have the hip swivel, he is rangy with excellent ball-hawk skills. Previous Pick: No Change.
