Man Elam is a hammer out there.

    Matt Elam is a lunatic.
I really would not mind taking both Matt Elam and Kevin Minter in the first two rounds to replace two legends next season. Imagine the big hitting safety tandem of Pollard and Elam, lmao that would be crazy.

Just watch tape of the Hawai bowl, Hunt looks much better than i thought. If possible, get Elam in the first, Hunt in the second, and trade up for Minter in the second too, given the amount of picks we have. That right there is the future of your defense we stocked.

    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

The wild card here is whether or not Ozzie will be bolder than usual this year in the draft. Will he give up a bunch to get Manti Te'o? Will he trade up in the second round, or even trade back while tradin gup at the same time to gain 3 2nd round picks? We have a lot of draft picks this year and need to use them wisely as we won't be able to bring in many guys through FA. If you think about it, next years projected starting team will be made up of almost all players drafted by the Ravens or picked up as an undrafted player.

QB: Flacco (08 first round pick)- The play offs are going to go a LONG way in determine what happens with Flacco in the offseason.
RB: Ray Rice (08 second round pick), Bernard Pierce (2012 third round pick)
WR: Torrey Smith (2011 second round pick), Tandon Doss (2011 fourth round pick), Jacoby Jones (FA signing 2012)
TE: Dennis Pitta (2010 fourth round pick), Ed Dickson (2010 third round pick)

OT: Michael Oher (2009 first round pick), Kelechi Osemele (2012 second round pick)- I honestly think with what any cap space we have, need to be used on picking up a LT, wishful thinking would be Brandon Albert, but I would settle with Bushrod from NO too. Oher needs to move to guard where I think he can become an all pro. KO should be the RT for years to come, despite popular belief on this board, KO has had a fantastic rookie season with one or two really bad performances. Nobody watches the RT position.
OG: Jah Reid (2011 third round pick), Marshall Yanda (2007 third round pick)
OC: Gino Gradkowski (2012 fourth round pick)

NT: Terrence Cody (2010 second round pick)- NT is the biggest question mark this offseason, do we go all in on Cody expecting growth, or should he labeled as a bust? He's had some great performances in certain games but must be way more consistent if he ever wants to be a starter in this leage.
DE: Haloti Ngata (2006 first round pick), Pernell McPhee (2011 fifth round pick), Arthur Jones (2010 fifth round pick)- The Dline would look strong had we had all these guys healthy all year, however I wouldn't mind seeing them draft a big athletic freak like a JJ Watt, it's something the future of this defense could do with. Plus rotation on the Dline is key in this day and age.

ILB: Dannel Ellerbe (2009 UNDFA), Jameel McClain (2008 UDFA), Josh Bynes (2011 UDFA)- Ellerbe is a stud, but Bynes and McClain are simply decent rotational players not every down starters. The FO have gone cheap with LB's lately, but now it's time to invest another high pick on a talented ILB in the draft to start next to Ellerbe.
OLB: Terrell Suggs (2003 first round pick), Paul Kruger (2009 second round pick), Courtney Upshaw (2012 second round pick), Albert McClellan (2010 UDFA)- The big question is if Kruger will be re-signed, hearing rumors on what he's asking for, the answer would probably be no. However, if he can be bought back at the right price, then that would be great for the future of the defense. Kruger has shown great improvement this year. If Kruger is not re-signed, I'm still pretty happy with the depth we have at OLB.

SS- Bernad Pollard (FA signing 2011)
FS- !!!- HUGE need in the offseason, Ed Reed will not be re-signed, I think he may even retire now that Ray retired. I seriously think we should do everything we can to draft Matt Elam from everything I've seen of him on tape. No one else I've seen entering the draft fits the Ravens mold as much as Elam does for a long time.

CB- Webby (2009 third round pick), Corey Graham (FA signing 2012), Jimmy Smith (2011 first round pick)- The CB depth will look decent even if Cary leaves which is very likely. Webb was a stud before going down with another ACL injury, hopefully he can come back strong. Corey Graham was such a great signing, typical Ozzie ''diamond in the rough'' pick up.

Say what you want about Ozzies recent draft, almost all of this team that made the play offs yet again consist of drafted players.

The three main guys I want through the draft are:
    Matt Elam
    Kevin Minter
    Margus Hunt

    Through FA:
Jerome Bushrod, or Brandon Albert (if possible with the cap.)
    Terrence Knighton

    Louisville surprised last night.

Teddy Bridgewater made a SERIOUS case for himself to be the top QB in college next year. He played very well. Florida's D is no joke either.

    A little bit.

From what I could tell it was kind of a stalemate most of the night between Benavides and Floyd (when they faced off against each other). That's not a bad thing at all. Floyd is a solid DT prospect with legit NFL talent.

I like Benavides. Maybe the Ravens look at him as a center prospect and would be willing to slide Gradkowski over to guard?

    Maybe.

Benevides compares favorably with Chris Myers, where yes he is under weight, but looks very athletically built, almost like an athletic under tackle.

And yeah, I'm pretty high on Floyd too.

Bridgewater was very poised and made some perfect passes, even a couple that the receivers couldn't get to. I refuse to believe the talking heads saying 'there are no QBs this year'. We don't know that yet.

I was thinking this myself. We know they like Gradkowski a lot, but he was a guard in a lot of college, he's taken a few reps at guard this year, and he's currently the top backup at all 3 interior positions so they must trust him to a certain degree at guard. He has the mobility, smarts, and ability to block on the run that you ask for out of a zone-blocking left guard.

I think Benavides is a better center prospect than Gino, but we'll see. If nothing else, drafting Mario in the 3rd or 4th would be a great depth pick. I really don't see the Ravens getting out of the draft/free agency without at least 2 offensive linemen if only for depth purposes. I'd like them to be a LT prospect and an interior line prospect. Hoping for Ricky Wagner and Benavides.

Bridgewater's not coming out this year, he's only a redshirt sophomore. He'll either come out early next year or 2015. If he comes out next year he's definitely the favorite to be the first QB off the board and in the conversation for #1 overall pick with Jadeveon Clowney and a few others.

    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

I actually don't think that the talent on defense is so much poor as just needing time to grow. As fans we've never really been patient with our defensive players. At least, since the defense began to come together around 99'.

If Terrance Cody cannot handle NT, he can still be an effective NG. Move him back to NG and move Ngata back to NT. Let Arthur Jones and DeAngelo Tyson compete for the 5- Technique. Let McPhee come off of the bench as the pass rushing specialist in nickel situations.

Suggs, Ellerbe and Upshaw will all likely be full time starters. So, you're only really missing one ILB and depth, which is an every-year need.

You have two CBs who just need to stay healthy. Webb, who can play press man or zone. Smith, who can play press man. Then, you have Graham and Brown who have benefited from their playing time this year. That's not even counting what Asa Jackson could bring to the table.

Pollard is locked in at SS. Personally, unless a can't miss FS shows up in the draft, I'd let Thompson and Ihedibo compete for the FS spot, because it would be hard for either of them to be a downgrade from what Reed is giving you this year.

We've seen this before from this team. Young talent, stuck behind veteran talent, with the coaching staff relying on its veterans. It just so happened that, this year, they had to rely on so many young guys at once. Johnson gone, Redding gone, Lewis, Webb, and Suggs hurt.
