Cap expected to be north of 122 million

Every little bit will help the Ravens. An extra million could help us keep a FA from leaving.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why you don't handle your salary cap the way that New York and Philadelphia did. That cap ceiling didn't go up and now they're both fucked.

Re: Draft / FA / Offseason Roster Moves (Merged)
It's not that Jacoby Jones was overpaid going into last season. If I am not mistaken, his cap figure increases this year.
This isn't a world where every player the team gets rid of, has a most clearly promising replacement ready to step in. It's not that type of time share. It was nice at the RB spot, with Rice stepping into McGahee's role, but more often than not you will have to take chances.
Releasing Heap was taking a chance on the guys you recently drafted. They hadn't had the opportunity to show much during the season, because Heap was taking up the snaps. Releasing Mason was taking a chance on the guy you recently drafted.
You are not going to be able to pay everybody and you are going to have to take those chances. It might be Jones, but it might be someone else instead. It could be multiple players of note. The reality is that they can't keep everybody and that is what the draft is for. That is why a team like the Ravens continues to produce, because of how well they draft.
Of the 22 starters that the Ravens had down the stretch, 16 of them were drafted/UDFA. That doesn't include the Kicker and Punter.

QB, RB, TE and 1 WR,
The entire front seven
Chykie Brown/Jimmy Smith, take your pick
