    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

Also looking into Reid going to the Chiefs. Bowe will be a FA and won't be back. Cassel will liekly be cut and would be a good backup pickup for Joe. Other than that Reid is a 4-3 guy and the've been running the 3-4. So does he dump a 3-4 end that doesn't fit his scheme like Dorsey?

I'm already looking forward to seeing how Manziel and Bridgewater have developed in 2013.

Why do people assume that the Chiefs are just going to let guys like Albert and Bowe leave?

If anything Reid being there would make staying home a LOT more attractive to Bowe and I can't imagine Reid would want to just let his only proven WR leave...especially considering how much he relies on the pass.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

    Dig it.

So let's be 100% certain here...those decisions were already made this week during negotiations b/c that's just how it works at that level. Before you commit to a job like this, you set conditions and get ownership/chief executive approval on your strategy and goals. If I was GM or "coach with personnel control", I'd keep them both, but if the owner forced me to prioritize, I'd take Bowe over Albert.

KC scored an unbelievably piss-poor and NFL worst 211 points this year. That's six TDs worse than the #31 place team. Or looking at it another way...less than two TDs per game. So no way in hell does KC/Reid not back-up the truck for his #1 WR Bowe. And it has been said upthread and in the "Black Monday" thread IIRC that they have considerable cap room as well. However, it is still Bowe's decision to make, so I would think that part of Reid's "table setting" this past week included face-to-face meetings with both Bowe (and Albert.)

    Re: New draft/FA/offseason thread

I just wanted to throw a real quick 5 round Ravens-only mock including compensatory picks. I believe the Ravens will receive 2 4th's (Ben Grubbs and Jarrett Johnson) a 5th (Corey Redding) and a 6th (Tom Zbikowski). Obviously I'm not including the 6th.

    1. Matt Elam, Safety, Florida - The Ravens' best shot at a successor to Ed Reed. Elam doesn't have quite the same ballhawking ability as a centerfielder as the future HOFer, but he plays very well in coverage and flies around the field like a heat seeking missile despite his smaller frame at 5'10, 200. He plays like a Raven, and I think he'll be a day one starter at free safety.

    2. Khaseem Greene, Linebacker, Rutgers - This might be a little high for Greene, but he's in the 2nd-3rd range and could easily shoot up draft boards. He only goes 6'1, 230, but I hear undersized linebackers often do pretty well in the NFL and Greene is an absolute tackling machine with great athletic ability and football skills. He can run with backs and TEs in man coverage and has the instincts and range to play well in zone coverage. Rarely for a college player, you can tell from his play that he spends time watching film, and he's a leader and general on the field.

    3. Ricky Wagner, Offensive Tackle, Wisconsin - Opinions on Wagner are kind of all across the board. Some have him as a 6th round pick, some have him as a 2nd round pick. I tend more towards the latter. Wisconsin's offense has been totally dependent on quality line player over the past few years and Wagner has delivered at both tackle spots, particularly at left tackle over the past few years. At 6'6, 320 with nice length, he has power in the run game and athleticism in pass pro. His technique and footwork are close to NFL ready, and I am projecting him at LT in the NFL. He could easily replace Michael Oher and maybe sooner rather than later.

    4. Ryan Swope, Wide Receiver, Texas A&M - Swope has been one of college football's most underrated receivers over the last few years. I predict him to continue to go underrated in the 2013 draft, as I doubt he'll impress at the Combine at 6'1, 208 with a 40 time probably no better than 4.5 or so. Swope can play outside or inside and shows great quickness out of his breaks with speed to run after the catch and separate from CBs downfield. He's a fiery player who isn't afraid to get physical with DBs. He would be a great successor for Anquan Boldin.

    4. (compensatory) Mario Benavides, Center, Louisville - The Ravens stay on the offensive side of the ball and particularly on the line with another prospect who shows more on the field than one would think from his measurables. The Ravens hope Gradkowski can lock down an interior line spot, but he may fit better at guard than center and if Birk retires, they will have no one on the roster besides Gino that has real experience snapping the football and must add depth. Benavides has been great in Louisville's zone-blocking scheme and projects to play best in the same system in the NFL. His 6'4 290 frame may appear questionable to some, but technique and leverage beat pure mass every time, as Mario showed when he held up well against Florida's elite DTs in run and pass.

    4. (compensatory) Jordan Hill, Defensive Tackle, Penn State - Hill could easily go higher than this particularly with a good Senior Bowl, but right now his tricky knee and lack of ideal size might push him down. Hill is not as good a fit for the 3-4, but if the Ravens use more 4-3 looks next year Hill is a great fit as a 3-tech gap-shooting under tackle. He might only be 6'1 290, but his good first step and use of hands make Hill a real sleeper as an interior pass rusher--a position you can never have enough of.

    5. Michael Williams, Tight End, Alabama - Williams was a great blocker at the TE position for Alabama and is ready to step in and play the same role in the NFL. At 6'6 270, he has ideal size and good enough technique. He's a bit better of an athlete than one would think and could play a role as a red-zone target.

    5. (compensatory) Meshak Williams, DE/OLB, Kansas State - Another underrated prospect, Williams was a JUCO transfer to Kansas State in 2011 and played only as a nickel/pass rush specialist in his junior year. This year, he grabbed hold of the RDE spot and wreaked havoc on offensive tackles all year long. He's still raw, but has the potential to stand out as a nickel pass rusher and special-teams contributor.

    Would appreciate any feedback.

    .
Really? I think we'd go with Eric Reid over Elam.

If our first pick isn't on an ILB or Interior DL I'm gunna be upset. Reed leaving should definitely be addressed, but I'm not blown away by Elam or Reid and I think they are the only two that will be there and are potential value

From what I've seen of Reid he's really struggled this year without elite talent around him especially in coverage. He was very good in 2011 but he needed to show he was a lockdown coverage player without Claiborne, Mathieu and Taylor and he didn't do that this year.

IMO Elam and Vaccaro are tied for top safeties in the class. I'd be happy with either of them, but the consensus seems to be Vaccaro is going to go in the top 20.

I just don't see the positional value for ILB or interior DL at that spot. I did the mock by listing the players in each round I felt had the best chance to be both the BPA and a good fit. There's no BPA DL or ILB at #25 overall.

Was Jenkins gone? I'm big on him for this team. Him beside Ngata makes sense to me

Because Bowe isn't exactly a TD machine. Isn't that burner guy and just doesn't fit what I think of as Reid's system. They have the cap room, I really see them making a run at a Mike Wallace since Pitts isn't gonna have much money to sign him.

    Just my .02 of course

What their gonna do in the draft beats me, I'm guessing they skip on the wanna be QB's coming out and go D, even though they have a ton of talent over on that side. And I bet Andy tries to lure Kolb in, or maybe evn going and picking up Jason Campbell whom he's familiar with because of playing him twice a year. But putting money into Bowe over Wallace, for Andy's sytem mind you, doesn't make sense. Add in Kolb or Campbell along with that rushing attack, a piece or 2 on the OL and their gonna be really good really quick.

Lol, I JUST asked about this kid. he looked really good in the Fiesta owl against oregon and dealing with their QB and fast moving offense. Def a good project tweener that maybe could fill the void left by Kruger. From what I read he has a high football IQ just isn't very good in coverage and space, but incredibly smart to read run vs pass, soooooo in a 3rd and long he'd recognize maybe a screen instead of a pass and so on. Seems like a very good 3rd down LB to me.
