Re: Average Joe
Flacco played like shit tonight. That said, the defense played worse, and we were outcoached badly (not just X's and O's and timeout/challenge management, but also in terms of motivation/effort).
It was an embarrassing loss at home in the biggest game of the year to a 3rd string QB. We'll see how we respond vs. the Skins in a game that presents serious challenges to our on-the-road style of play.

Re: Average Joe
Can you read? Rice had a 6 play stretch where he produced 5 yards, including a mind-numbing drop on a screen that would have gone for 20 yards.
Yes, he had some good runs. But he wasn't consistently ripping off good gains. 54 of his yards came on 3 runs. The other 9, he had 24. I have a high bar for Rice because he is an All-Pro caliber player, but he hasn't had a truly good game against the Steelers in a long time. Tonight was no different--they seem to have his number.
I don't put all the blame on Rice, as the run play calls were predictable and the interior OL was poor in run blocking, but tonight was no better than an average performance by Ray Rice. Of course, Flacco is the only Raven held to a standard where he MUST be perfect every play regardless of how the players around him are performing.

Re: Average Joe
What are you talking about? So he had 78 yards in 3 quarters against the best defense in football and this is a negative in your eyes? And you can kill that strawman "Does Flacco have to be perfect!?!" argument, because expecting your QB not to turn the ball over twice in the 4th quarter when you have the lead isn't asking for perfection, its asking for competence.

Without looking I would venture that his attempts on passes more than fifteen yards are tops in the league, or pretty close.
A lot of qb's hardly ever throw it more than ten yards.
They should be getting the ball to play makers in space. Not getting the ball to play makers 40 yards down the field when they are covered.

Re: Average Joe
This is what teams that wanna move the ball do. Let your playmakers do what they do ...make plays. Getting the ball to Rice, Smith and even Jones and Boldin in space 5-15 downfield is not a bad thing, it would be a blessing. Put the ball in the hands of your playmakers instead of just chucking it up and hoping for the best, you never know...you just might make some plays ... like a 4th and 29 etc.

Re: Average Joe
I thought that was a bad throw by Flacco, but I could be mistaken.. don't really feel like going back to watch it now.
You can't discount big gains, because you aren't going to get them every play - just like I won't say "if you take out the bad plays.."
So you selectively choose to add up only the short runs/no gains and take out the chunk gains? At the end of the day, he averaged 6.5 yards a carry, I don't give a crap how he gets them.
BTW, I'm not putting the blame on Flacco - blame it on whatever or whoever you like.. I just disagree with the Rice comment, given his opportunities.
