Tea Party to separate from Republican Party?
Just rumor, but I am hearing that some Tea Party members want to separate themselves as their own political party away from the Republicans.
The gov shutdown debacle and Obamacare has significantly fractured the GOP.

Re: Tea Party to separate from Republican Party?
Do you have a link on this? I wouldn't be surprised.
Rove and his cronies have distanced themselves from the Tea Partiers which cost them the election. They didn't cash on on the landslide in the mid term elections and nominate a conservative.
Rove destroyed Santorum, a conservative, who lasted longer than anyone thought he would. Mitt just had more money and the backing of the machine.
A true conservative candidate would have wooed the Christians and more independents. Both of those groups turned out more than the previous election but not enough.
But as for the GOP being damaged, they said that after the 95 shutdown when the media attack was even worse than this. They accused GOP of shutting down programs that starved children to death.
Yet, in the next elections the HOuse only lost about 7 seats and gained some in the Senate.
Then Bush was elected to two terms.
So don't count the GOP out yet but they will be really damaged if the TEa Partiers pull out and all the conservatives with them.
Rove keeps shooting himself in the foot.

That's what we really need, more zealots arguing in Washington and not getting anything done.
The bad thing is I am a tea-party member when it comes to government size. On social issues I lean a little more to the left.

Re: Tea Party to separate from Republican Party?
Trap, I don't have a specific link to something definitive. However, there are a lot of op-ed pieces out there indicating that this rumor might have legs.
For example: http://communities.washingtontimes.c...rty-split-gop/
One of my fraternity brothers works for a lobbying firm down by the Capitol and he and I had a couple of beers a few weeks ago. He was telling me about how the Tea Party members within the Republican Party have really been difficult to work with within the GOP for a lot of different reasons, but mainly because they are a small (but significant) group within the GOP that doesn't like the way moderate Republicans kind of straddle that fence in the middle.
I just kind of look at the Republican Party right now and it just seems so fractured.
I'm a libertarian anyway, so it doesn't bother me one way or the other outside of the fact that this country - for some unintelligible reason - still operates under the two party system and both Dems and Reps need to work together to get shit accomplished.

Not at all.
Libertarians are, in essence, in favor of a minimalist government which leads to maximum personal liberty.
