Reed is my favorite Raven of all time but honestly, unless he's willing to stay on the cheap [not going to happen] then it's time for him to go. He had 8 picks in 10 games in 2010, but only has 7 picks in his last 32 games so I think his ballhawking days are largely over. When it comes to tackling, he's either bouncing off a guy, getting hurdled, or getting flagged. The best aspect of his game left is the reputation (not too many deep balls thrown this postseason) and that he can be the defensive general on the field when Lewis leaves. I don't think that's enough to pay him the top dollar he's going to want and sooner or later you're going to need move on with young talent.
The salary floor starts to go into effect next year so you're going to see teams with a bunch of room reach for these stars. I won't be betrayed if Ed goes elsewhere and I hope he can still make some records fall. He'll always be remembered as a Raven.
Older veteran players on the downside of their careers go to New England as their last shot at getting a ring, not because they are offered a lot of money. Ed appears to want one last payday. I don't expect New England to be a player for Ed Reed, plus, even though Belicheat loves him, I doubt Ed would get along with him very long. BB would not want to put up with Ed's diva ways. One of the few players New England did break the bank for was Adalus Thomas and they regretted that deal soon after it happened. They did not get the player they payed for, which happens often when our defensive players leave the Ravens via free agency.
I don't think Ed is going to go to the Patriots. Why would he, assuming the Ravens win the Super Bowl? The reason veteran players go to the Patriots is to get a ring. Ed would already have one. I think he goes to Indy and plays out his career for Pagano. Pagano coached Ed at Miami and with the Ravens. Ed loves the guy, and the Colts have cap room.
Please not to the Pats.
If the Ravens sign Reed for even less than the minimum they are nuts.
I believe Reed will retire a Raven so I believe he'll be back HERE next year. He's not going to get top dollar anywhere else given his age. I can't see him wearing anything but purple.
Personal I don't like Ed. He's been past his prime for years. And each year is the on again off again saga of him retiring. Get him his ring and let him move on. Reguardless he still can't tackle and is always out of position except the last 2 games which were against teams that don't throw the bombs that burn him often. Take that money and get young for the future. I expect him to play all out at the SB because that is what it is. Then next year if you give him a bunch of money it will be the old Ed of the last few years. Sorry, business decision
Ray tested the market twice and we ended up paying a fair price for his services in the end. There's many new articles out there suggesting Ray sobered up in terms of his asking price. And I doubt the Ravens will offer more than any other team for Ed as well.
I'd love for him to stick around on a fair deal though (for a year or 2...no more).
I don't see how the Ravens can afford to pay Ed Reed more than a Mckinnie/Birk type contract. Some team is going to offer more.
This is what I can see. A young Bucs team with a real weakness at secondary seeing Reed as an instant upgrade and a way to sell tickets. They need to get up to the cap floor anyway which kicks in this season so they will pay a little more to get him. Reed can add a great deal to a team like that. Think Darren Sharper going to the Saints a couple of years ago.
Home to the Saints?
Bellichick loves Ed. Unless Ed wants a huge contract, I really see him becoming a Pat next year.
Get your ring and retire Ed... a day after Ray Lewis walks away... Bc
If he wins a ring, he'll either stay with us, happy that he's made it, or he'll go to some less-competitive team where he can get a nice contract and not have to tackle. The ideal situation for him would obviously be going to the Saints; he'd be on a good team, become an instant leader on defense, and be back in his home city. I see Miami or Indy as alternatives too.
If we lose, I see him going to New England.
In that order. With the outside chance of TB or Miami or even Dallas if one of them hands him a HUGE payday, which is doubtfull. But I could see the Colts or Saints offering him slightly more than us and him taking it, Saints being hometown and Colts having Pagano. Anyone else is gonna have to go big which I doubt.
