some additional informaton:
1. Parking is typically limited in New Orleans and I expect that it will
be extremely limited Super Bowl weekend. I'm not sure what day you guys
will be getting there, but on Friday and Saturday you might be safe
parking in the Warehouse District (it's about a 15-20 minute walk from the
French Quarter, David and I use to walk to the FQ from the Warehouse
District all the time, so don't worry, it's totally do-able, it's one of
the safest places in New Orleans, as well). We lived on the corner of
Julia Street and Baronne Street and there was always parking available on
the street, but if you want to get a bit closer to the FQ and/or the
Mississippi River you may be able to find something nearer (check South
Peters Street, Gravier Street, and Common Street- just remember the closer
you get to the FQ, the less parking availability unless you pay for a
parking garage, which can be pricey). Another option for you guys would be
to park Uptown and take the streetcar to the FQ/downtown. It might be good
if you and I pull up a map on google before you leave so I can give you
more information on areas to park and distances.
I am sending you a couple of links. The first one provides very general
information about New Orleans (where to go, where to eat, etc.), the
second one is a link to coupons in case you are interested in going to any
of those places (tours, restaurants, etc.). The following are the
restaurants I recommend:
French Quarter:
NOLA (an Emeril Lagasse restuarant- Cajun/Creole/American fusion, kind of
pricey, but totally worth the experience!!)
K-Pauls (Creole/Cajun; not upper-end, it's a laid back atmosphere,
reasonable prices, great cuisine!)
El Gato Negro (Mexican, reasonable prices, very good food and mojitos!!)
Oceana (Seafood/American; never been here, but we have heard great things
about it, I think the prices are reasonable, not sure)
Warehouse District: (near downtown/Super Dome)
Couchon (Creole/BBQ, pricey, but good!)
Butcher (owned by the guys who own Couchon, you get Couchon flavor, but
you don't have to pay Couchon prices, great sandwiches!)
Rio Mar (South American cuisine, kind of pricey, but worth it as well!)
Sun Ray Grill (American/Japanese, very good, they have everything--from
burgers to sushi!)
American Sector (American; in the WWII Museum, one of our favorite places
to eat! The Chef is well-known Chef Bech, reasonable prices)
There are some other places around the city I can tell you about, but they
are driving distance from the FQ. Also, I recommend looking up the places
you are interested in on the internet, most, if not all have menus on
line.
