Over at Camden Yards they should build a Cal Ripken statue, Earl Weaver, and Brooks Robinson.
They better build the Ray statue NEXT to Johnny U not at some other entrance to the stadium. Those 2 Baltimore legends need to stand together.

I can't see any other reason why they WOULDNT put Ray's statue next to Johnny U. It should absolutely be in that spot.
Re: Baltimore's Mt. Rushmore
I came into this thread saying Brooks better be on it.....
Am in agreement those are the big 4
Other names tossed out I can roll with also...
and add Jim Palmer, Lenny Moore, Arthur (Fatso) Donovan
My cred? if you say Bobby Boyd, I have to ask which one, the Oriole 1st Baseman or the Colts DB?

No love for Hoyt Wilhelm?
How soon they forget. :069:

Those guys were all iconic, but IMO there are only 4-5 guys who deserve a statue in Baltimore.
Johnny U, Ray Lewis, Cal Ripken, Brooks Robinson, and Earl Weaver.
Jim Palmer should get some consideration too.

This is probably a generational thing. I saw Brooks play the last few years of his career, but grew up on stories on how incredible he was at 3rd base. In the 70's and 80's, he was essentially Mr. Oriole. Other than maybe Cal Ripken, there is nobody that represents the Orioles more than Brooks Robinson, and that includes Jim Palmer and Frank Robinson.
I don't want to downplay Phelps because he is an all time great athelete, but I don't think he is as iconic to Baltimore as those other people. I don't live in Baltimore anymore, and I talk sports with people that I meet. Over the years i have had a ton of people say "You are from Baltimore, Cal Ripken is awesome", or "Ray Lewis is a GOAT "(or overrated depending on the conversation). The old timers know Johnny U. I don't think I have ever had anybody say to me: " You are from Baltimore? I love Michael Phelps!"
Two other people I would submit for the 2nd or 3rd mountain would be Sugar Ray Leonard and Pam Shriver.
Re: Baltimore's Mt. Rushmore
I'd much prefer to see Ray's statue on the other side of the stadium, centered in front of the main gate just like #19.
I like the idea of the two biggest football legends in Baltimore history protecting both sides of the stadium. Just feels right.
And add me to the list of no to Phelps. I've seen his douchery first hand in and around Canton / Fells. Ask the owners of Max's, Koopers and Alexanders if he's a nice guy or treats women with respect. I don't care if he's won 100 medals. The "man" is a complete ass and not worthy of being compared to the others.

I think that we're assuming guys who played for Baltimore based sports team. It's not like Ray Lewis is from the Baltimore area. And heck, if we were talking about guys who came from Baltimore, then we'd have to put Babe Ruth on there.

Somewhere above Robert Irsay and somewhere below Sidney Ponson.
