Re: Don't be overly surprised if Kruger blows up from this point.
I believe Kruger is a pretty effective pass rush specialist. I'd actually be interested in retaining him because I personally believe that he is a "long developer" and still can get better. He may not be stout vs the run, but he does have some ability to get to the passer. Consistency is an issue with him, but when he shines, he shines. I'd like to see us retain him to a 2 year deal and see how much better he can get. He really was a non factor his first two years because we had some good players in front of him, he never really thrived on ST's, and they tried that crazy switch of making him a 34 end. I don't think he'll ever be a great run defender, but I do believe he has value as a rusher.

Antwan Barnes 2.0, with more of a coachable personality.
Re: Don't be overly surprised if Kruger blows up from this point.
Going into this season, I was of the thinking that Kruger would really take off this year. So far, that hasn't exactly occurred.
Re: Don't be overly surprised if Kruger blows up from this point.
I don't see him blowing up, nor do I see anyone overpaying for his services next year. Overpaying for what? His body of work so far has been underwhelming.

Antwan Barnes was a more dangerous pass-rusher.

That didn't really materialize during the regular season though. Barnes had a tendency to just try and speed rush off the edge, only to be pushed passed the pocket by most tackles who could get a shove on him.

EX, you beat me to it!
Re: Don't be overly surprised if Kruger blows up from this point.
Maybe by a 4-3 team desperately needing a OLB. He isn't a full time starter at OLB in a 3-4. In the 4-3 he would be much better suited, as he is decent covering back and diagnosing quick plays to his side. He's just horrible against the run and takes himself out of plays.
All in all he won't be back next year.
Re: Don't be overly surprised if Kruger blows up from this point.
I think you explained it all in your post. Not so much he was off to a rough start (personally i think he was playing fine considering), just had teams able to focus on him because there wasnt much else to. that was something he wasnt really used to. Now that suggs is back hes been playing like he was capable of. Beating double teams is something hes going to have to learn how to do, and giving him 2 weeks before he injured his back wasnt really the way it was going to happen. Im not sure hes going to go off and have a 10+ sack season, but i dont think 6-8 is being too lofty.

I was a little too harsh on him early on, but lately, he's been really stepping it up. Olines have shifted their blocking assignments towards Suggs, and now that Kruger has learned the game more as a starter, he will now have an easier time getting sacks.

You're right, Leach. But this should surprise no one.
Because there is no chin behind Paul Kruger's beard. Just another fist.
If Paul Kruger was president he would protect the secret service.
Black Holes cannot escape Paul Kruger.
Paul Kruger can tap dance through a mine field. Wearing clown shoes.
The number Pi goes on forever. Because it's running from Paul Kruger.

A late bloomer, perhaps. Had his college football career foreshortened by his Mormon mission, and IIRC, a serious knifing during that experience. The quickest way to get the Krugers and Upshaws busy is to have a healthy Suggsy & Ngata eating up double teams
