I actually like Mike Davis quite a bit and no, I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed by this. He would be a good value pick if available at those spots.
The luxury selection of Mosley in the 1st makes the actual needs at OL and FS far more glaring. The Ravens can't really afford to get out of the draft without adding a free safety and offensive lineman who can each compete to start from day 1. They need a WR as well, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to wait on that if the board works out that way.

We need FS HUGE
We need RT HUGE
We need CB pretty big
We need RB pretty big
We need DL pretty big
We need WR big
5 positions I could see us looking to address before WR. But then again, ILB was probably sandwiched between RB and DL for me, but Mosley's talent caused FO to fall in love with him
So when we pick a TE.....

He is on my pick six list on the other thread.

We need a TE big, actually maybe MORE than WR. Especially a solid blocker.
The more I think about it, the more I talk myself into it. Which is insane, I would've ripped my own balls off if a month ago, I suggested we wait till late to draft WR in this draft.

Not sure the consensus on this, but I didn't see any FS in this whole draft who could start day 1. FS is a dying position in college. They don't use ballhawk types anymore. Teams look for run support and tackling, and place less premium on coverage.
The safe passing systems, quick hitters, bubble screens etc mean fewer balls over the top for safeties to get after so colleges, who have to defend mostly non-pro type offenses, simply aren't training players to play FS all that much. More and more they're moving forward to hit a ballcarrier, since the receivers are catching so many balls near the LOS.
The pros are having to follow suit. Last year the Ravens played with Dig and Elam, and I would expect this season and the future to be similar. They'll draft another safety, but if it's more a "strong safety" that won't be a surprise. That's mostly what there is.
Re: Who might we pick in round 2 (and round 3)?
I think we go defense again, followed up by RB and then WR (or vice versa)
Then we'll pick up some under the radar OL guys to compete late.
And sign an UDFA punter, TE project, along with a boatload of other guys.
Re: Who might we pick in round 2 (and round 3)?
I don't think they get the safety until the fourth round. I think they get an offensive lineman and pass catcher before they find their safety. I'd say the safety they end up taking is Wyoming's Marqueston Huff.
My ideal for the next two picks would b:
48. Morgan Moses, OT, UVA
78. C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
Alternatively:
48. Jordan Mathews, WR, Vanderbilt
78. Jack Mewhart, OT, OSU
For their comp pick at the end of the third, I'll throw out this wildcard:
99. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois
Re: Who might we pick in round 2 (and round 3)?
The Ravens 2nd round pick will be Carlos Hyde (if he gets past Cleveland)

I'd sign up for either of those plus your comp

But...but...but...the Ravens already have Flacco. Why would they use a draft pick at a position where there is no need? That would be like picking an ILB with the 17th pick. ;)

I think he might turn out to be a lot better than where people rank him. He could be a sleeper in this draft and end up outplaying guys picked ahead of him. Just a hunch.
