Democrats, Elections, and Ideas

Manon McKinnon does a good job with this article. The article discusses, well, Democrats, elections, and ideas. He outlines a few core issues and pins down the major weakness of liberals: ignorance. With NO ideas, this is simply the case.
If people were educated on conservatism (small government, personal responsiblity, low taxes), things COULD be different in this country. But, the endless indoctrination in Universities across this country, the endless stream of biased bullshit from the mainsteam media, and the hate and pessimism coming from left-thinking people may be responsible for the future downfall of this country.
Case-in-point: the War. You have the left drawing moral equivalency between Hezbollah (terrorists) and Israel. They humanize the terrorists and do nothing but criticize and question our (and Israel's) effort in the middle-east (the fraudulent photos, reporting, and the focus of Israel's unintentional bombing of innocents). They have no sense of American exceptionalism; the pessimistic views of this war, labling our troops as terrorists (thanks, John Kerry), and the attempt to appease the unappeasable is only empowering the opposition.
Even by ignoring the attacks leveled against westerners in a pre-9/11 world, there is MORE than a just cause to engage in a war with terror. The acts of war against Israel, 9/11, and the recent botched terror-plots against the U.S. and Britain seem to be illegitmate reasons to be in a war for the left. They wish to pull-out, bury their heads in the sand, and *hope* that the hateful ideas fueled by Islam will dissipate. Will this country ACTUALLY identify the enemy? Or will they pussy-foot around the truth to avoid hurting someone's feelings?
This is a war of ideas and the enemy- Islamic facists- need to be educated, among other things.
Anyway, this thread was not intended to be about the war. It's about the lack of any GOOD ideas coming from the left. I'm tired of hearing each side argue partisan politics and "who did what". Many conservatives are disenfranchised with the Republican party, and rightfully so, but the left still isn't operating on any useful ideas. It's all about government dependency, appeasement, and entitlement.

Well said. :patriot:
Your post reminds me of O'Malley. His entire campaign is just smearing Erhlich and attacking his record - attacking his failures of which many were the fault of the Democratic controlled legislature blocking his initiatives. He has no ideas of his own other than "vote for me because I'm a Democrat". It makes me sick that anyone would think of voting for this corrupt scumbag.

That's a great idea. Let's start by educating the Republicans in Congress and the White House!
The best attack O'Malley can mount against Ehrlich is that he paid that private company to run 3 schools where test scores dropped. LOL, yes, his administration did pay them, TO FULFILL A CONTRACT GLENDENNING SIGNED WITH THEM! If this is the best O'Malley has he is going down in flames. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets smoked worse than KKT.
Re: Democrats, Elections, and Ideas
Neither extreme is pretty. While there are wacky democrats, there are also wacky republicans. It seems to me like the wacky dems seem more in control of the media and the wacky cons seem more in control of the government. Will this incessant bickering among both ever end? :/

Hey, go easy on him...he sounds like a typical Democrat who can't tell you want he really stands for (high taxes, big government programs, onerous regulations, redistribution of wealth, racial quota systems, a gutted national defense, a pro-UN anti-US capitulatory form of foreign policy) without losing elections by wide margins. Ergo, he's just like the Democrats at the national level...reduced to being the representative of Bush-hate and anti-everything else. He can't risk telling you what he's for without losing your vote.

LOL...if we had a multi-party system like many other nations, you would see that our government is not controlled by conservatives...would that it were, but the reality is totally different.
If we had that multi-party system, our government would be controlled by a coalition of Conservatives and Conservative-Leaning Moderates, with the Moderates being the dominant partner. The only thing preventing it from breaking apart is the prospect of the Far Left party taking over with its prospective coalition partner, which consists of an increasingly small number of Left-Leaning Moderates.
Re: Democrats, Elections, and Ideas
But we are stuck with our 2 party system because they have convinced the American people that it is this way by design.

While there are wacky people everywhere, I think it's important to draw a distinction (nowadays) between a CONSERVATIVE and a Republican, and a LIBERAL and a democrat.
While we have a Republican president and a Republican majority in the house and the Senate, CONSERVATIVE fiscal policy has been almost non-existent. Bush and the Republicans have been spending out of their asses, which goes squarely against conservative principles--and what USED to be Republican principles. Conservatism promotes small government, personal responsiblity, and low taxes; that is hardly what has been promoted by this administration. Government spending needs to be CUT; the GOVERNMENT as a whole needs to be downsized.
For those reasons - and others - is why I consider myself a conservative, first and foremost. The fiscal shortcomings of this administration do not rest on the shoulders of conservatism. While the economy is good largely due to tax-cuts (a conservative principle), spending is out of control and the promotion of personal responsibility is non-existent.
As I've (and others) have said before, the Republicans today are the Democrats of yesterday, and the Democrats of today are the SOCIALISTS of yesterday. SOCIALISM is the prominent idea of many left-minded people in this country, and that's a bit disconcerting. A lot of the people in this country buy into liberalism because it's the ignorant point of view. It's as if liberals (like the nut-job in charge of Moveon.org) think it's POSSIBLE to create a heaven-on-earth through the means of politics and government; which in itself is the early stages of socialism. When you get down to it, many of them believe that socialism never got a fair shake.
The Republicans have been a disappointment which further proves that most politicians are self-serving scum bags. The ideals of conservatism aren't endorsed well enough to people; this is a society in which people have the mindset of "what's in it for me!?" or "i'm gonna get mine!". People wish to be government-dependent, and in turn, lazy, irresponsible, and ignorant. Liberal policy bolsters these things.
Anyway, I could go on and on, so I'll shut up now!

...and they've been successful in court keeping alternate party candidates off the ballot as well.
America is ripe for a multiparty political system. Unfortunately, it will be a Hitler/Stalin, extremist-type third party candidate that finally breaks through the restrictive 2-party system in place right now.
If you could actually get the voters of this country to register and actually brave the voting booth, things would change. Maybe they need to start entangling voting with federally backed student/home loans, much like they have with Selective Service. You don't vote, you don't qualify for aid. It'll never happen, but it would probably work.

Couldn't disagree more, the last thing we need is to get unmotivated people into the voting booth. The highly motivated voter that would claw through a brick wall to cast his ballot isn't likely to be the kind looking for a government hand out. The guy getting the hand out needs to be driven to the polls and then paid $5, who do you think he will vote for? Whoever promises him things.
