How about let's also blame the Orioles for chasing out the Baltimore Grand Prix (hopefully forever):
Quote:
In a huge reversal, race officials now say the Grand Prix will not return to Baltimore until at least 2016. And even that is considered unlikely.
It may be the finish line for the Grand Prix of Baltimore. Scheduling conflicts will bring the race to a screeching halt for at least the next two years.
...... After being held three straight years over Labor Day weekend, the race would have had to move in 2014 because Navy will face Ohio State on the Saturday before Labor Day at nearby M&T Bank Stadium.
“We spent the last few months working with Lamont, Indy, the Orioles, Ravens, the Convention Center and the city to come up with a date, and we haven’t been successful,” said JP Grant, Race On.

Those of you getting upset about it are falling for the NFL propaganda machine. It is not that big a deal to almost anyone anywhere.
And, yes, it is up to the NFL to ask for the date. The Grand Prix people reserved the day ahead of time. It is not MLB's job to work out the NFL schedule when the NFL hasn't even announced yet that they are opening on Sept 5. They have been known to move their opening weekend. They used to open on Labor Day weekend. Now they try to avoid it. Nothing the NFL does is constant. Including the non-tradition of the Super Bowl champ opening at home on Thursday.
If the NFL adopts the 18 game season next year, opening night would be in mid to late August!

I'm done arguing this one. You guys are right...the Orioles/MLB should get everything and anything they want, and the rest of the city should just be grateful to have the privilege of yielding to them. The Ravens and anyone else that wants to use public city resources can divide up whatever is left after the Orioles are done.

No, the NFL put a request in for the A's to not be at home because they think the Raiders have a better chance of winning the Superbowl than us. The NFL hates Baltimore and told the Orioles to just go ahead and play at home that day.

I agree! The previous year the Ravens almost made it to the Super Bowl. The Orioles and MLB knew it was a possibility that the Ravens could have made it the following season and that the NFL now starts the season with the Official Kick Off Game on the Thursday before the rest of the NFL games. But also... were the Ravens offered to open at home on Sunday Night but decided to get the furtherest road game out of the way? Seems like the Ravens were willing to take a L to get the away game at Denver done and then extra days for the today's Home Opener.

Peter Angelos is one of the most powerful men in Baltimore, unfortunately. You best him, you deserve a pat on the back.
