Exactly.
What we need to do is keep other defenses off balance and run the no huddle around 90 % of the game. Use a smash mouth no huddle system and pound the ball with Rice while dink and dunking it, then the odd deep shot. I just this offense is better suited for the short/quick passing game rather than dropping back and throwing it up in the air.
We did this so well against the Bengals, and other teams earlier on in the year but got away from it because of some bad road performances.
IDK about 3-back looks, but the 'Skins teed off on the empty backfield sets - let's lose those. Don't fall into patterns w/ Leach by which his absence signals pass. He's gotten good yardage on short, waggle-esque routes across the flats these last 2 games.
True dat on TOP/longer drives. Even should the low percentage deep passes work, they make for quicker scores that put our banged up D back out there quickly.
This defense is going to get killed, quick or slow. Set the offense up to score as many points as possible.
Implementing a short passing attack will do more for the passing game than max protection will. In max-pro they're going to rely on the receivers winning one on one match ups, which isn't something they've been able to do on a consistent basis.

Max protection schemes mean there are only a couple of receivers in the pattern. That is a lot easier for the defense to guard against. Spread the defense out with multiple receiver sets, but basically run the Patriots offense with a lot of slants, screens, rubs, crossing routes, etc. Get the ball out of Flacco's hand before the rush can get to him, and add in a healthy serving of Ray Rice.
I'd rather see them spread the field than max protect. Something tells me they'll run stretch plays, draws, screens, and work to win the TOP battle. But it will also take TDs; field goals won't win this one.
