Re: Joe Flacco vs the Media
I think that's part of it, but another part of it is that the Ravens are a team that typically doesn't get a lot of media attention. Now that there are only 4 teams left and there's no Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers or Tim Tebow to gush about the media is grasping for storylines. The national media isn't going to say this is a well-coached, balanced, disciplined team. The lazy media storylines are the defense is aging and the defense is carrying the offense. Heaven forbid we make it to the Super Bowl because than the storyline will go back to Ray Lewis's past...
Re: Joe Flacco vs the Media
Personally, I am embracing the haters. The Ravens play better when they are underdogs.
Re: Joe Flacco vs the Media
Thats a good point. without the media darlings they normally talk about they dont have much else to say. I just think they should have some support for their arguments instead of just bashing to bash. i dont think thats asking too much. if the guy went out and threw a bunch of INTs and had a low Passer rating than i could see the reasoning, but after a pretty damn well played game by him despite his teammates letting him down seems like reckless and irresponsible reporting.

This! This team has shown it cannot handle being the favorite. See Titans, Jaguars, Seahawks... Tell this team they aren't supposed to be win and they'll be fired up. They play so much better as dogs.

Wasn't so much that they were favored as it was that they were on the road. They've been a different team at home vs. on the road this year. That's part of the reason Flacco gets so much heat from the media - his play during the road games.
Hoping they can play like a home team this weekend.
Re: Joe Flacco vs the Media
The problem is the changes in media over the past decade or so, particularly with regards to the internet and dedicated sports tv networks.
This means there is so much more time to fill and competition between media, leading to every little thing being overblown and sensationalised in order to drag in viewers. Back in the day, journalist's made their careers out of thorough reporting and ensuring their stories were watertight before publishing, usually in newspapers. It's the same all over the world. These days, the competition is so great that any snippets are published to the public domain instantly, without the time for context to be given.
The proliferation of tv/internet has also ensured that the number of people paid to give their opinions as analysts (as opposed to just reporting news) has massively increased, diluting the quality and leading to more generic talking heads- if you are expected to cover 32 teams, how can you have time to offer anything but a brief outline of each story.
Another aspect is our own involvement in our teams- we now know so much about our own teams due to specialised websites, message boards such as this etc (itself a vicious cycle caused by the 24/7 media), that we feel that we are far more knowledgable about, for example the Ravens, that any opinion in the media that doesn't conform with what we believe will be seized on and attacked as if that person doesn't know a thing! The person is either being reactionary to gain attention/ratings (see; Bayless, Skip) or only has a loose grip on all things Ravens and is having to offer thoughts on something he is not truly informed about and may have had to rely on highlights etc (national media).
At the end of the day, once everyone accepts what the media has become on a global basis, then we can all move on with our lives.
Re: Joe Flacco vs the Media
Just win this game. The media will get off his back if he wins this game. If he doesn't, hope he has a thick skin this offseason.

It was a young man's mistake to call out the media.
The columnists are a bunch of fat 50-some year old jackals who, in their mind's eyes, are just a push up or two away from being jocks. God forbid somebody half their age suggest they may not be diamond-perfect, he is on their turf and they won't let him live it down.
It took Billick years to get past his lightning rod act at the Super Bowl, when he inserted himself between the media and Ray (and the rest of the team), and I've always respected him for taking that bullet in the name of keeping his team focused on the big game. And I always thought that was a calculated move by Billick.
Joe, well, I just wish he hadn't gotten involved in a pissing match he can't win.
Re: Joe Flacco vs the Media
Just have to admit it though! The national profootball media hates B'more. I am convinced that part of it relates to Modell moving the beloved Browns to B'more. Just look how fast they were able to obtain an expansion franchise in Cleveland. Model doesn't have a chance these days on the Hall of Fame because of certain media members.
Second is Ray. The incident of his trial says a lot. Here was an innocent guy "involved" in a tradegy not of his making and in my opinion simply hanging out on that trip with the wrong guys. The media never let it rest, even to the point of the NFL refusing to honon his awarded MVP status in the Super Bowl that year. Someoneelse went to Disney. I believe that of lot of the media hates the fact that Ray is possible the best LB (and team leader) that ever play the game.
Flacco's on the road performance provides ammunition for the media. Believe me, more teams than not would like to have Flacco as their QB.
Ain't it great to be hated???
Go Blackbirds!!!!! F_ck the media...
