Robert Irsay suffered an incapacitating stroke in November 95, and had been ruled legally incompetent.
At that time, Jim Irsay, who was the Colts General Manager and Senior Vice President, took over full control of the team.
In the spring of 96, Modell approached Jim Irsay and offered him $5Mil to buy back the Colts name. Jim Irsay's response was:
"For $25 to $50 million, I'd listen, but I don't think we'd do it," Irsay said.

At that moment in time, Jim Irsay had the power and the ability to set a lot of things right: Give Baltimore their history back, establish a new identity for the Indy Colts franchise (which, at that time, had been in Indy for 11 years and had never once won more than 9 games in a season), make a pretty fair amount of money selling new merchandise to his fanbase, and get paid for the "priviledge" of doing so. He chose to try and extort a ridiculous sum for doing the right thing.
So to hell with him and his well-wishes.
screw him, I hope they become the new version of the Browns
Hope that city burns to the ground the day after we roll out with the Lombardi. F them.
Colts definitely have to rebuild and with Caldwell as coach, could take a while. Irsay will have to see how fans react and honor his commitment to the city. Would be bad for him to sneak out in the middle of the night again.
He types like a 13 year old girl if not worse. Also, he sounds like an idiot in any of his speeches. uhhhhh uhhhhhhhh uhhhhhh you know uhhhhh
"Jim Irsay want Ravens to win SB"
My gut reaction is that the F(*%&^%ing Indy franchise will then petition the NFL to include a Ravens win as part of the "storied" Indy franchise history!:ralph:
This is for Irsay and his franchise -- :141847_bdmoon:
Well aint that nice of him. He can still kiss my ass.
Old Tiger wasn't much after that stroke and Jimmy became his legal power of atty and even sent back an expensive diamond neckless the old man
bought for his gold digger wife. The old man had fits and wanted to fire
him but he couldn't. The papers were signed giving Jimmy the rights over
everything in his life - his entire financial empire.
Jimmy could have returned the name when Art tried to get it back but set
the price so hi nobody could pay it. It was strictly a power play on his
part.
Other than that, he has been a nice guy to everyone else even sending
checks to strangers he reads about in the papers that are struggling. His
friends swear by him.
Just not Baltimore.
good one Beau ...
