i always wondered why athletes who could play baseball or football would ever choose football. in baseball you have guarenteed contracts and your career can go for 10-15 years versus 5-10 years for football..

There is no doubt that players pay the price with their health in later years. It risk vs. reward. It's a decision they make and have to live with for the rest of their lives. No one is holding a gun to their head to play football.

Goodell et al are trying to make changes to extend the careers but it's at the expense of 'pure football'.
I ran into Mike Ditka in a Marriott and the guy can barely walk. But for the guys in the league now, their future shouldn't be as bad
