We're probably tight on the cap after this year and the Dolphins may franchise him.
But, great Left Tackles don't hit the open market often.
Crazy hypothetical talk but what the hell?
What would you pay him?

The Dolphins WILL franchise him.
I can't see the Dolphins letting him go.
Coming from GB Philbin may not value that LT position as much as others. Mario Williams left Houston. I think it's a long shot but certainly not unheard of.
Bad year for Jake. FWIW...KO is actually scoring better than him through week 13 (KO has finally broke out of the negative numbers with his past two games (1.0 and 4.3 respectively according to PFF.com)).
On a hypo...I'd pay Long fair market value for the deal with a better than market value on the bonus...then I'd draft Warmack (Bama) or Cooper (UNC) for my LG spot and roll with Long - Warmack/Cooper - Pouncey on my left side. Hot damn!
Jake Long looks like the next Leon Searcy to me. No way would I pay him big money. Let the Dolphins eat up that insurance premium.
you dont see LTs hit the market for a reason and Jake Long wont be one that does.
hypothetically speaking... whatever we had or enough to make him the highest paid LT, whichever is lower. Unless im missing something and hes no longer a top 5 LT? unless he takes less to sign here of course.
not to hi jack but did the broncos ever get Clady signed? I still like him as top flight tackle and he really excelled in the zone blocking scheme.
I doubt that we would be one of the candidates if it turned into a bidding war. There are perhaps 5-6 teams that wouldn't be interested in a great LT. There's no way with our cap space that we're outbidding 25 teams.
I'm not so sure. The new coaching staff has not been impressed. There have been a bunch of articles all year about how Long has regressed and is no longer a very good player. Philbin has been pretty clear that he isn't impressed by reputations. The Dolphins could part ways. If they do some team will offer him crazy money but the Ravens won't be one of them.
